Gone are the days of loitering about into the world and attempting to connect with nature
ISLAMABAD: This new technological age has given rise to something that was thought only in futuristic movies. Over the past many years, the world has seen a virtual revolution which has revolutionised the idea of how we communicate and interact. Gone are the days of loitering about into the world and attempting to connect with nature because people are now more inclined to stay at home on their devices in order to escape the dread of the real world.
The virtual world has, however, created in us a great sense of alienation towards our surroundings. This detachment from real life has had serious psychological implications on people that can be seen in the celebrity culture of the US. Studies have shown that people who constantly post on social media and receive validation even for saying the most insane things have become narcissists and develop a holier-than-thou attitude.
Furthermore, people who have not had enough personal interactions have a harder time accomplishing important social tasks. Social media has led to improvements in social interactions but it has also damaged the ability to communicate personally. In addition, it has created major health concerns among the youth due to the lack of physical activity. It is healthier to keep a balance.
