Think about yourself, your family and your relationship with God
SWAT: This time around the holy month of Ramazan is a little different from what it used to be because we are all restricted inside our homes without much contact with the outside. Fasting during quarantine is proving to be a dreary task. People who used to engage in activities outside are now trapped indoors with not many things to do. This can become highly depressing because it entails a loss of purpose. Schools, offices and factories are closed while all other activities are cancelled. There is not much to look forward to. We are forced to surf the internet, watch television or scroll through our phones all day long. Psychologists have already announced that this intense situation is causing mental problems such as depression. Depression can be treated by understanding the significance of Ramazan.
Perhaps, this holy month can help us reassess our lives and goals. It is important to take a step back and look at all the things we have done in our lives. Ramazan is a month of blessings in which we seek the mercy and forgiveness of God. It is important that we take time out for prayers as it serves the purpose of mental and psychological relaxation. It also helps cleanse the soul, something that everyone needs during these chaotic times. Another activity that we can invest our time in is reciting and understanding the Holy Quran. It is important to acknowledge the words of God so that we are better prepared to lead a life according to His commandments.
Fasting does not mean that we only eat and sleep. Instead its true meaning is that of patience and endurance. In times of crisis these qualities are essential if we are to overcome the situation. Use this quarantine and Ramazan to assess everything around you. Think about yourself, your family and your relationship with God.
