India versus Pakistan (II)

Letter July 30, 2011
Most of the Indian mainstream media is very pliant and the same goes for the Indian intelligentsia.

ISLAMABAD: Ejaz Haider’s article of July 29 is a tour de force. Historical revisionism vis-a-vis the Kashmir conflict has become the norm. Also, the fact that Indians have invested heavily in think tanks and their Congressional caucus in the US means that the Pakistani narrative is either not heard at all or delegitimised. Furthermore, the sheer number of Indians posting on message boards and blogs points towards a possible organised movement of revisionism not dissimilar to that of the Israeli Hasbarah.

To make matters worse, most of the Indian mainstream media is very pliant and the same goes for the Indian intelligentsia. As a result, there is very little internal criticism. Sometimes I feel Arundhati Roy is the only honest Indian.

At least we Pakistanis can take measured pride in our self-questioning and self-reflection and constant criticism (often shrill) in our national discourse.
