Many US citizens have taken to the streets to protest against these measures
KARACHI: While citizens are facing their fair share of struggles during the Covid-19 crisis, frontline workers such as doctors, nurses and security officials are tirelessly working around the clock to ensure that the situation remains contained. We owe it to them to maintain quarantine measures. Their efforts should not go in vain by our stupidity of breaking protocol.
Many US citizens have taken to the streets to protest against these measures. They believe that the deadly virus is a hoax that has been over-exaggerated by the international media. What these people don’t realise is that in the time of crisis the idea of individual liberty fails to hold any importance. While protesters and conspiracy theorists have become a huge threat and concern, there are countless people who have taken to the internet to thank frontline workers. Viral videos show that medical professions leaving their houses are met with applause by their surrounding neighbors. Others are seen offering rose bouquets to police and army officers who are patrolling the streets. These small kind gestures go a long way in trying to restore the faith of these frontline workers which helps them get through the day.
These workers are no less than soldiers that are risking their lives on the frontline of a war against an army that is invisible. In the process countless have lost their lives. The least that citizens can do to make the situation less traumatic for these workers is to show appreciation and care towards them as well as maintain social distancing measures. The online community is quite creative and I urge these people to come up with new and innovative ways in which they can thank these risk-takers that are risking their lives to save ours.
