Poor construction materials

Letter April 20, 2020
The whole industry has also become a mafia of sorts and people are scared of standing up against them

ISLAMABAD: Over the past many years poor quality materials are being used in the construction of houses, buildings, bridges, etc. Some people use B grade material because they don’t know much about quality while others use it because of the low prices. The companies that provide such construction material are mainly responsible for the damage as the only thing they care about is their profit. This is how construction has become the go-to business in Pakistan.

Infrastructure being built nowadays has a high chance of deteriorating faster and falling off. We often hear news of roofs falling during heavy rains or thunderstorms. A case in point is that of the metro busways and bridges. It has been a few years since these bridges and stations were constructed and their condition has deteriorated. Cracks and creases in such infrastructure become visible in a matter of weeks. The problem is that many construction contractors lie to their clients so that they can make a high profit. Due to the economic situation, low-quality materials are widely sold and many have created profitable businesses. The whole industry has also become a mafia of sorts and people are scared of standing up against them. An individual’s selfish approach to earn profit will greatly harm the country in the near future. The government should keep strict check on companies that provide inferior quality material.
