There is a delusional superiority complex in most Pakistani men.
KARACHI: This is with reference to Sehar Tariq’s article of July 29 titled “The foreign minister wears Prada”. The sorry fact of the matter is that the men of Pakistan have, over the years, developed this ingrained belief that women can’t be better than men, no matter what. The result is what I would call a delusional superiority complex in most Pakistani men to the extent that most will never see any intelligence in a woman who possesses considerable amounts of it. Women are confined to very specific roles in a society such as Pakistan’s and this usually revolves around the home, raising the children and looking after the family.
Of course, there are some exceptions to this, i.e. the educated and liberal minority. However, the majority is conservative, prone to sometimes acting in a violent manner and resisting any kind of change. And this resistance comes not only from illiteracy but also chauvinism.
