Looking forward

Letter April 15, 2020
The coronavirus has forced a tough situation on to the Pakistani leaders.

KARACHI: The coronavirus has forced a tough situation on to the Pakistani leaders. They remain confused between whether to enforce a full-fledged lockdown that can save the lives of countless people and prevent the virus from spreading rapidly all across the country, or to continue things by imposing minimal regulations so that the economy and daily-wage workers stay afloat. The situation requires a thorough understanding not only of the precise actions that need to be taken but also of the consequences that will come about in the aftermath of this chaos.

Historically we have witnessed that every major event that occurs is followed by a paradigm shift. This shift is a shift in the existing structures of society knowledge and understanding. It is without a doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic will trigger such a shift after its demise. Thus, it becomes important for researchers and scholars to understand how the dynamics may shift after the end of this pandemic so that we are able to cope with it in the future. Much like PTSD and similar mental illnesses became quite common amongst people after WWII, the trauma from Covid-19 can take the same effect in the future. We need to be wary about the fact that the world will no longer be the same and many sudden changes can occur. It is necessary to try an understand what the future holds for us after Covid-19 so that we are best prepared to handle it collectively.
