Workplace harassment

Letter April 07, 2020
Woman are being harassed to come forward and speak up for themselves

KARACHI: The crucial issue of 20th century is that women are being harassed at their workplaces. Many people have highlighted that harassment is shockingly common in their community. It is extremely tough for women to work and become independent as it is inevitable that they will suffer harassment whether it is a finance company or a service industry. Every day we see and hear stories about how women are constantly harassed while outside.

Majority of the woman working in banks, companies, hotels and industries face the problem of harassment and discrimination. Most women do not fight or stand up for themselves because they think they are weak and alone and studies claim that about 98% of women would never speak up. However, there are women who are able to reach out and highlight the issue on social media, but this is not the only solution. It is time to move beyond hashtags; it is time for us to stand up for ourselves and all other women who face this; it is time for us to celebrate diversity; and it is time for us to give a voice to those who have been suffering for years. We need to help empower women and give them a voice. It is only if we are together can we can fix the underlined causes and consequences of harassment.

Woman are being harassed to come forward and speak up for themselves. We can work together with our family and friends to tackle this issue. We should stand with women who think they are weak. This will make us stronger and more powerful.
