A global emergency

Letter March 18, 2020
It is important to be aware of how the world is transforming

ISLAMABAD: The first case of coronavirus originated from Wuhan and in a matter of months it has spread all around the world. Several thousand people have died and millions are infected. In such an apocalyptic situation, it is important to understand that prevention is better than cure. People must take care of their hygiene as there is no vaccine or medication for treating the novel virus. Scientists have been working day and night to find a cure, therefore they should be given all the support necessary.

Till now around 180 people have been tested positive in Pakistan. It is very much possible that the number will start increasing rapidly in a short time span, therefore the government and the army need to team up to control the spread early on. This could easily turn into a national crisis. Many of those that have been tested positive have had some sort of travel history; some came from China and most of them came from Iran. To control such a situation, the government should lock down and prevent the influx of people into the country. It is high time we took drastic steps as our economy is already shivering from the sight of the virus.

Another thing that the citizens need to be aware about is social isolation. The spread of the virus is mostly through human contact. All citizens must reduce their social activities and keep themselves in isolation till the situation stabilises. This will give people a much necessary break from their fast-paced lives and an opportunity to think about the new era we are living in. It is important to be aware of how the world is transforming so that we can take necessary actions accordingly.
