Urban sprawl

Letter March 16, 2020
Urban sprawl simply means the extension of urban developments such as houses and shopping centers.

LARKANA: Urban sprawl simply means the extension of urban developments such as houses and shopping centers. There are two types of areas in the country. One is urban areas, the rostrum for commerce, industry, technology and innovation. The second are rural places or grounded places, which produce food and raw materials. The increasing population has given birth to urban sprawl problem. The low density cities have today become major cities in the country. For many, such industrialisation is the sign of success and development. Yet there is a cost. As areas get more and more urbanised, the lower class or the rural people are pushed more and more to the periphery and are alienated from the rest of the community. Fish farms and fields, which actually produced food for our city, have been kicked down town. Our cities have become more polluted and populated. The local buses which used to charge a small fare, are today charging extra due to extended distances and increasing routes. The urban sprawl has also been adding to global warming and pollution as well. People are building societies outside of the cities and a large number of people are moving there. Many will follow and soon such areas will transform into hustling bustling urban cities. Sooner or later expanding developments will take over the whole country and also shut off crop production.
