WAH CANTT: Over the past many years, it has been witnessed that street crimes across Pakistan have increased, especially in Rawalpindi. Incidents of theft, kidnapping, purse snatching, mobile snatching and eve-teasing are on the rise. There is an atmosphere of insecurity and fear in the entire locality of Wah Cantt. No resident dares to go out after dark. The most worrying factor is that most of these crimes are committed by teenagers. These crimes are the fallout of unregulated and unmonitored use of the internet. It really pains to see young children being caught by the police. Quite ironically, they belong to families with respectable backgrounds. Being elders it is our moral responsibility to prevent the youngsters from going astray. Exposure to violence on television and internet also promotes violence in real life. Such teenagers get ideas from different websites and try to embody such evil characteristics. Schools, parents and the government must come together to solve this problem. The authorities concerned should be aware of such issues and open rehabilitation centers for such juvenile delinquents so that they can prove to be good members of our society rather than cause chaos. It is important to help those in need rather to shun them out of society. Therefore all authorities and parental figures need to act responsibly to try and nurture the youth in a positive manner so that such issues are prevented in the future.
