Privatisation is a bitter pill but it seems the only solution in this situation
ISLAMABAD: There was a time when PIA was one of the world’s leading carriers. I remember the time when the national flag was painted on each plane. They were reliable and provided quality service, as they were serving in accordance with their tagline, ‘Great people to fly with’. However, for the past few years it seems that the airline has entered into a dark chapter because of deterioration in services. There are cancellation of flights and long delays. There are numerous complaints of disappointing services. All this has tarnished the airline’s image resulting in losses. These conditions somehow suggest that it might be privatised soon.
Privatisation is a bitter pill but it seems the only solution in this situation. The private management may provide operational efficiency and bring about a turnaround. Apart from that, transparency should be ensured and proper due diligence should be conducted. This is the ultimate solution to bring back the magnificent past of PIA and aid it to soar high again.
