Public support for the military

Letter July 25, 2011
How will supporting the ISI bring peace to Karachi?

LONDON: This is with reference to Majyd Aziz’s piece of July 25 titled “What can we do to turn things around?”. Yes, things in Karachi are far from ideal, but the military-industrialists’ nexus has only contributed to the economic quagmire the country is in. As for the argument that the nation should unite behind GHQ and the ISI, aren’t they state institutions and by that I mean they already represent the people. What else can be expected of Pakistanis? Surely the writer doesn’t thing that singing praises of either the military or its intelligence agencies will somehow transform Pakistan into a prosperous nation. Also, how will supporting the ISI bring peace to Karachi? The writer should have perhaps provided answers to these questions.
