Women's Day

Letter March 04, 2020
Our society needs to understand that if one female is educated, it means that one generation receives education

KARACHI: A woman can make a big difference. The International Women’s Day held on the 8th of March celebrates the achievements of women throughout the world and help countries eradicate discrimination against women. Social change in our society is much needed to make women strong. It is important to change the mindset of the people so that they support the idea of equality, help counter male dominancy, and fight against violence and harassment.

Even though half of the world’s population is comprised of women, women are facing hardships and gender-biased treatment, especially in rural areas. Education is the most effective tool in the world. It allows individuals to fight any kind of trouble and gives them the strength to face hardships. Most people in our country have a conservative mindset and think that educating girls is a waste of money because she has to get married and do household chores in the end.

It is important to change this pathetic mentality. Women can also do whatever men can. Our society needs to understand that if one female is educated, it means that one generation receives education. Females can change the standard of living. We need to provide women with complete human rights.

The government needs to spread awareness about female education. They should offer concrete suggestions and also implement them. All political parties need to incorporate within their governing body a 30% ratio of women so that they can participate in decision-making.
