ISLAMABAD: Suicides in Pakistan are increasing with the passage of time. They have become a major social problem. What leads people towards committing suicide is the most important question. According to a research, around 800 000 people kill themselves every year. This comes to one person every 40 seconds. The problems that lead to a person committing such an act include unemployment, health, poverty, homelessness, family disputes, etc. It is their disappointments and failures which push them to end their lives in a cruel and inhumane way because they feel trapped without having any other option. They feel themselves alone in the depth of disappointments and find no way out.
Poverty is a major problem because parents kill their families before committing suicide themselves as they can’t even feed them one square meal a day. The lack of basic needs lead to starvation and all rationality is lost when a person has nothing. In Pakistan, the basic system of government is not working properly. This worrying problem is getting worse, as problems are exacerbating without a proper solution.
Unemployment is the key reason because of which many people commit suicide in Pakistan. Suicide cases have increased over the past few decades as more and more people are living in inhumane and miserable conditions. Educating people and giving them a respectable source of earning will certainly help them live a much more satisfied life. The government and media should ponder on the matter and try to eliminate the reasons that push people to the edge.
