A new approach of ‘growing old together’ has spread its wings among the crowd
KARACHI: Early marriages have always been an issue in the rural and underdeveloped areas of Pakistan where young girls are forcefully married off to men twice their age. Over the years, with the prevalent education and awareness, a certain benchmark relating the financial stability, career and education was set in the culture and early marriages became more of a taboo in many cities.
The tables have seemed to turn in the past few weeks when a wedding ceremony of a young 18 year old couple went viral on social media. A new approach of ‘growing old together’ has spread its wings among the crowd. People greatly acknowledged the deed mentioning that it is better than having a relationship out of wedlock. Some disagreed expressing that financial status and maturity mattered for a marriage to be successful.
Is this a positive step or is it going to create bigger problems? This is yet to be distinguished. Till then let’s hope it helps the social image of Pakistan as a whole.
