Inconvenienced by gas shortage

Letter February 21, 2020
Those who turned to gas due to shortage of electricity now face a whole new problem

KARACHI: Small strikes and demonstrations because of the shortage of sui gas have become quite common in Pakistan. Workers, traders, rickshaw drivers, transporters, etc. are suffering due to this shortage. It is because of this that transport fares have increased manifold and the increase in gas prices also pushes up prices of food items and other goods. Travelling has become expensive within the country and it has become harder to travel between places. The situation has become so dire that there is a lack of gas supply in many households across the country. Some houses complain of low gas pressure while others receive no gas at all. It has become impossible to boil water and cook food. Those who turned to gas due to shortage of electricity now face a whole new problem. I lodged a complaint about this with the Sui Northern Gas pipelines Limited help service. The officials said that this would be solved in a few days but the problem still persists. The authorities concerned are requested to make a schedule for gas load shedding instead of not supplying it for 2 to 3 consecutive days so that the least we can do is cook food.
