Encourage floriculture

Letter February 11, 2020
We also need to learn economics trends, in order to compete with the world

ISLAMABAD: Floriculture is defined as a discipline that is concerned with the cultivation of flowers and plants. Pakistan has enormous potential for growing many different varieties of flowers. However, Pakistan does not greatly contribute to the international flower trade. Moreover, only a minimal number of agriculturalists are growing flowers. The most common flowers include rose, tuberose, jasmine, while the other expensive varieties are not cultivated in Pakistan. Nevertheless, Pakistan has the right climate and a cheap labour system so as to easily grow and cultivate crops and flower which both can be used for the benefit of the country, but due to lack of attention paid by the concerned authorities we are lacking when it comes to floriculture. Growing flowers in Pakistan can turn out to be a very lucrative business if it could be done on a professional level. Furthermore, due to lack of resources and experts developing the floriculture industry has become a difficult task. We need new technologies and new developments for setting up greenhouses so as to encourage this more. Our manufacture and advertising policies need to be modernised according to international standards so as to promote these activites locally and internationally. We also need to learn economics trends, in order to compete with the world. To grow other varieties of flowers, loans should to given to the concerned departments, as it will provide a significant role in boosting the economy of the country.
