Stray dogs

Letter February 10, 2020
The government should pay attention to this issue and take effective steps to control the population of dogs.

TURBAT: An alarming rise in dog-bite deaths across the country has made the people suffer a lot. The federal and provincial governments have failed to focus on the vaccination of stray dogs to control their population. The population of rabid dogs is on the rise. However, it is a big challenge that has been persisting for the past many years. The number of dog-bite cases in the country saw a sudden surge in 2019 amid a growing population of stray dogs, shortage of vaccines and absence of facilities in rural and urban areas of the country. Besides this, the entire country is running without anti-rabies vaccines. Only in Karachi, more than 150 dog bite- cases were reported recently. No movements have been seen on the ground for prevention and regulation of the growing population of stray dogs.

The government should pay attention to this issue and take effective steps to control the population of dogs.
