PM Imran Khan promised to curb corruption in 90 days, the situation seems precarious
LAHORE: Yesterday’s report of Transparency International about corruption in Pakistan is a serious blow to efforts to restore good governance. Although, PM Imran Khan promised to curb corruption in 90 days, the situation seems precarious. His government has instead further added to the woes of the common man. Instead of scoring high in transparency and ‘perceived corruption, as being claimed time and time again, Pakistan fell down three spots.
This makes it evident that nothing has changed, and the incumbent government has been unable to restructure the state. On the other hand, NAB has also been very active for over 15 months, arresting politicians, holding them to prosecutions; but today the end result is still the lack of transparency. Why are they constantly failing to deliver? It was the slogan of the PTI government to put an end to corruption, conflict of interest and restoring meritocracy in everything. Unfortunately, they are just paying lips service and did nothing to ease the troubles of the downtrodden people. The conflict of interest still exists and we see the repeat of the same if not worse. For how long will the people endure such miserable conditions? For how long will they be treated unfairly in every walk of life.
Enough is enough. PM Imran Khan should understand some ground realities and also start working for the people from the ground up. He must take stern action and review his policies to ameliorate the deplorable conditions of the state.
