Pakistanis tend to blame everyone in the world but themselves for the difficulties they find themselves in.
LAHORE: This is with reference to Amber Darr’s article of July 20 titled “Anguished in Afghanistan”. I agree with the writer that Pakistan did not mind its own business in the 1980s but to simply blame Pakistan for whatever is going on in Afghanistan right now is a bit unfair. Yes Pakistanis tend to blame everyone in the world but themselves for the difficulties they find themselves in but Afghanistan is no better. They tend to blame Pakistan for everything that ills their country.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai is weak and vulnerable and accused of turning a blind eye to corruption, and for that he has only himself to blame. For instance, one of his aides was arrested on charges of graft last year but was released after the president’s intervention. The same thing happened this year as well, when another presidential aide was arrested on corruption charges and was eventually released.
In addition to this, the scandal surrounding Kabul Bank remains unresolved and to date not a single arrest has been made, despite the loss of some $900 million in depositors’ money.
