TURBAT: Cases of dog-bite have become quite common in various parts of the country. But predominately most cases have been reported in the provinces of Punjab and Sindh. It is estimated that in the period of January to August, in the province of Sindh, more than 11,000 people were bitten by dogs out of which 25 died. Beside this, snakebites cause 50,000 deaths a year in entire country. Now we should imagine that these are not small numbers that are occurring around the country each year. Similarly, the past year was marred by frequent reports of deaths caused by dog and snakebites due to the shortage of anti-rabies serums in public hospitals.
According to the National Institute of Health, officials has said that the country requires over 90,000 phials of the anti-venomous serums, 50,000 vials of anti-rabies serums and 30,000 vials of anti-tetanus serums. Here the government has to face the targets and manufacture the medicines in order to save the lives of citizens.
