The PIC incident

Letter December 18, 2019
Govt has to take some bold steps by giving severe punishments to the people who were involved from both sides

KARACHI: December, 11, 2019 can be called one of the darkest days in the history of Pakistan. Recently, a video went viral on social media of one of the members of the young doctors’ association who was praising himself like he had achieved a milestone in his career. I want to ask the authorities of the institution: is this the standard of their education?

I have seen other videos too in which lawyers are seen marching towards PIC and storming the hospital with stones and sticks as if they are on the border fighting for their homeland. The irony is that none of them feel ashamed after the attack and are defending themselves as if they all are innocent. Some of them even have the audacity to defend this attack by labeling it as self-defence! What a disgrace. Their seniors are also giving statements that this incident was just a result of the video that went viral. They claim that they were provoked and mocked and that’s why some of them lost self-control. This is the standard of our judicial machinery where we seek to get justice. Today I realise why people do not prefer to seek recourse to law. The government has to take some bold steps towards this incident by giving severe punishments to the people who were involved from both sides. To prevent these types of incidents from happening in the future we need to educate the masses on social media about the hazards of exploiting any news. I hope justice will prevail and not be delayed like always.
