Cricket disappointment

Letter December 06, 2019
A bad performing coach should not be allowed in the role for too long

PESHAWAR: Cricket is not the national game of Pakistan but it is the most viewed and liked sport across Pakistan. Therefore it comes as a great shock for many Pakistanis to see the mismanaged and poor performance of Pakistan’s cricket team in recent days with 9 consecutive series losses.

It seems that the recent appointment of Misbah ul Haq as team coach and selector, along with Waqar Younus as the bowling coach and selector has proved to be a recurring nightmare for the Pakistan cricket team and fans.

It seems that both coaches, although being great players, are bad selectors. I therefore urge the PCB chairman to separate the role of the selector and the coach. Also, the national team coach should be selected on the basis of consistent good performance and to unify the team to bring it on a par to its actual potential. The administration is quick to strike off players that are not performing without giving them ample time to settle in the international atmosphere. The Pakistan cricket team can afford good coaches and a bad performing coach should not be allowed in the role for too long. The Pakistan cricket team should not be a training centre for coaches.
