Student unions

Letter December 04, 2019
The absence of student union in colleges and universities in modern times is being out tune with time

TURBAT: Students should have the right to take action for their education system if severe problems persist. Voice needs to be raised against any violent crime or discrimination that happens in educational institutions. Gen Zia ul Haq had banned student unions in order to give authority to the teachers, but some teachers misuse their power. Students need to take steps to protect their rights. They are future of the country. It doesn’t matter if Gen Zia had banned student unions. The current government has got a chance to restore student unions. It is the right of students to unionise.

I urge the government to respond to the appeal of the students and restore student unions in colleges and universities. Restoring student unions is necessary to make students aware of their rights and duties as citizens. Student unions also act as nurseries for future leaders, leaders who can ably lead the nation on the path of progress and prosperity. The absence of student union in colleges and universities in modern times is being out tune with time. Students should be given all opportunities to flourish. The continued ban is only suppressing their natural talent.
