Street crime in Islamabad

Letter November 24, 2019
Students living in hostels are victims of street crimes such as mobile snatching at gunpoint, robbery

RAWALPINDI: Islamabad is considered one of the most secure cities in Pakistan. The capital was built as a safe city project. The crime rate of Islamabad is the least when compared to the other cities of Pakistan. Sector-I of Islamabad has been observed as a target of street crimes nowadays. Due to universities nearby, this sector has hostels all across. Students living in hostels are victims of street crimes in the I-14 sector such as mobile snatching at gunpoint and robbery, etc. These crimes are constantly being reported at the concerned police station but there has not been a reduction in the crime rate till now. There are many hostels in I-14/2 where students of Riphah University and the majority of them have been victims of crimes. It is observed that usually such criminals come on bikes and harass the people who are walking. It gets very difficult for the students to go outside at night to get some fresh air.

I would like to request the capital administration, the deputy commissioner, the superintendent of police and all other authorities concerned to sort out this matter as soon as possible. We must solve this issue because each life counts.
