India’s commendable restraint

Letter July 15, 2011
It is good that New Delhi has not played into the hands of such anti-peace elements.

JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: Pakistan’s president and prime minter were among the first world leaders to condemn the July 13 bomb attacks in Mumbai. That said, the level of maturity and restraint shown by the Indian government and its media by not pointing fingers at any specific group or a country is highly commendable. This attitude is a sharp departure from the blame game that followed the 26/11 attacks.

If one were to delve a bit deeper, there may be a number of possibilities regarding the identities of those behind the bombings. For instance, there is the home-grown Indian Mujahideen, the Students Islamic Movement of India, the Lashkar-e-Taiba and even Hindu extremist groups. All these groups and outfits are working, possibly unknowingly, on a single point agenda: To spoil any chance of peace between India and Pakistan. It is good that New Delhi has not played into the hands of such anti-peace elements.
