State of roads in rural Sindh

Letter November 16, 2019
The government should take immediate measures to solve problems in rural areas of Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Broken roads in rural Sindh are creating hardships for the people. Deteriorating roads not only disconnect rural areas from the towns and big cities but greatly affect farmers in bringing seed, fertiliser, and other produce from their fields to the markets. People living in rural areas are deprived of basic health facilities, therefore they take their patients to nearest city hospitals for treatment; they have to face great difficulties in any emergency because there is no proper transport, as a result they have to depend on quacks for medical care. Dilapidated roads also frequently cause accidents. The inclination of people to migrate from rural to urban areas is also increasing due to such insufficient facilities.

Another destructive aspect is that due to damaged roads, teachers avoid going to schools regularly as they now have a legitimate excuse, thus putting the future of the new generation at risk. Inaction on the part of authorities is increasing the misery of the people. The absence proper infrastructure is a huge setback for our economy and because of this education and health suffer greatly. The government of Sindh allocates a huge amount to construct and repair roads in every budget but conditions of the roads are still unchanged. The government should take immediate measures to solve problems in rural areas of the province and transparently scrutinise where the previous budgets were spent.
