Reports say that Sharif’s platelet count has dropped to dangerous levels
RAWALPINDI: The Islamabad High Court has confirmed Nawaz Sharif’s bail, suspending his jail term for eight weeks on medical grounds. Under the court order, Sharif will have to go back to jail after eight weeks to resume his seven-year sentence in a corruption case unless his bail is extended. According to reports, the former PM has agreed to go abroad for treatment on the advice of his doctors and family, and he might leave for London this week if his name is removed from the exit control list (ECL).
Reports say that Sharif’s platelet count has dropped to dangerous levels. According to doctors, this figure must at least be 50,000 for a patient to be declared fit for air travel. The panel of doctors has come to a decision that Sharif requires treatment abroad due to a lack of facility in the country to treat what ails him. The medical board has already recommended Sharif’s treatment abroad.
The PML-N had shared with the Imran Khan’s government the doctors’ recommendations regarding Sharif’s treatment abroad. There are reports that in the light of the doctors’ reports, the government is likely to remove Sharif’s name from the ECL in a day or two, enabling him to leave the country.
The government's decision to remove Sharif’s name from ECL and allow him to leave the country for treatment abroad deserves appreciation. It is a good gesture by PM Imran to allow Sharif to receive proper medical treatment as everyone has a right to basic healthcare. Similarly, the PM should also focus on improving the healthcare system in the country for the benefit of the people at large.
