We have not only corruption but mismanagement, bad governance and incompetence on a massive scale
CHAKWAL: We are exceptionally quick in putting blame on others after every incident, rather than rely on investigations and wait for results. After Thursday’s train accident, we started accusing the government and asking the minister concerned to resign. Yes, there should be a thorough investigation into this matter and those held responsible should be sacked immediately whether he is a minister, a bureaucrat or a guard.
But where do we stand in terms of fulfilling our responsibilities? Is it not our responsibility to comply with the rules and regulations laid down by the authorities, that too for our own security and safety? The previous government, after numerous tragic incidents, placed a ban on CNG cylinders in public transport and asked the private car owners to get their vehicles inspected. Unfortunately, even this year many incidents of CNG blasts were reported in which many died. We should strive to upheld the rule of law. Laws are there for the good of the entire society. We face many problems because we disregard the rule of law. We have not only corruption but mismanagement, bad governance and incompetence on a massive scale. Most governments have failed to govern decently. In our country; politicians and many others are hypocrites of the first order. There is a wide gulf between what they preach and say and what they do. This way things are going from bad to worse. Who is going to set things right? This is a big, big question. We tend to think, if we think at all, bad things happen only to others. As long I am not affected there is no accident, there is no bad governance, there is no absence of the rule of law. This is sheer complacency. We are all facing the consequences. We should not be selfish. We should think and work for the good of the whole society.
