There aren’t any universities who can claim that they are building an entrepreneurial mindset
KASHMORE: To say that everyone can do what they want to do and that the more effort they put in hard work the more they can achieve, is perhaps acknowledging a totally different reality than that present on the ground levels as per our country situation. In our country, schools, colleges and universities are putting their best efforts to produce good employees rather than good employers. All of our institutes, teachers or parents work on our grooming in a way that one day we could be a good employees or corporate slaves. But the root cause is the present-day untrammelled capitalism that eludes us into believing that by being slave and by pleasing our masters is what we call living a good life. Unfortunately, till today we have that mindset and we want to remain the same. There aren’t any universities who can claim that they are building an entrepreneurial mindset rather than an employee mindset, even we don’t have universities where entrepreneurship is offered as a major except IBA. The truth is that in Pakistan, every university wants to see its graduates in a high-end or multinational company that pay inadequate wages.
It’s time for the HEC to change itself by eliminating old policies that universities have to follow and work on teachers so the teaching methods and learning materials can be effective. Additionally the HEC should allow universities to take their decisions accordingly. We are in the age of trade wars where we need to focus on practical work and analytical skills which will lead to proactive minds. In this era, only those countries can succeed if they have good entrepreneurial minds, creative and innovative people, so that they take decisions proactively.
