Swarms of flies in Karachi

Letter October 31, 2019
This year dengue has affected a large number of people throughout Pakistan

KARACHI: After the recent spells of heavy rains, rainwater mixed with gutter water is still standing on many streets and roads of Karachi. Now there are swarms of flies in the city because of clogged garbage that accumulate in different parts of the city. The city is littered with heaps of garbage that is not only the cause of diseases but also give off a foul smell. During the day there are swarms of flies and at night we are being tormented by swarms of mosquitoes. These insects are causing malaria and dengue throughout Karachi and other parts of the country. Looking at the news the large number of people inflicted by these diseases is surely a cause for panic. Flies are in houses, eateries, parks, etc. Something needs to be done about this as the situation has already escalated. We should try to keep our homes and their surroundings clean. We should act collectively to tackle these problems. This is what we can do under the present circumstances until a possible and viable solution is not introduced.

This year dengue has affected a large number of people throughout Pakistan. As for Islamabad the authorities say this year they have failed to carry out anti-dengue spray. This is the reason why there have been so many cases of dengue. In Sindh, it is chiefly because of governmental neglect and incompetence. In all cities and towns of the country, garbage is not lifted for days together. Then there are gutter overflows. All this can be traced to corruption and bad governance.
