RAWALPINDI: Dowry is an evil which has affected our society very badly. It has caused much harm to the socio-economic structure of the country. The dowry system has given birth to many problems. It drives many girls to suicide to save their parents from economic drudgery. It is an act of discrimination against unmarried girls, whose values are defined based on their dowries. It is greed and selfishness and is a great curse. Dowry is a big problem for parents who belong to the lower middle class. This is the reason why people get depressed and feel unhappy at the birth of a daughter. Dowry should be banned in Pakistan, just like the serving of more than one dish at wedding ceremonies was banned. People should refuse to marry when dowry is demanded or given. Banning the scourge of dowry will lead to a happier life because it is a big source of stress for parents and women.
