University scandal

Can have a significant impact on women’s education in Balochistan

BALOCHISTAN: A scandal has erupted at the University of Balochistan, recently unearthed by the FIA, where a few staffers had allegedly placed hidden cameras in washrooms, smoking corners and other campus spaces to blackmail or harass female students.

The nature of the scandal can have a significant impact on women’s education in the province, which is already at its lowest. The scandal will restrict parents from sending their daughters for higher education in the future because such activities are rampant all across the country.

Education is considered as a beacon of hope and encourages females to pursue social activities but the scandal provides an impetus to conservative values. Now the conservatives will use it as an excuse to suppress the status of women. This is truly a shameful incident.

I urge the government, the inquiry commission and other authorities concerned to look at the matter more seriously and make the inquiry transparent. The perpetrators must be punished.
