Revival of commissionerate system (II)

Letter July 11, 2011
Many residents of the province felt that the merging of five districts into one was a setback to ordinary people

KARACHI: The restoration by the Sindh government of the old system of governance through commissioners and deputy commissioners is to be welcomed. Even Sindhi nationalists, who are not known to be admirers of the PPP, have welcomed the decision. Many residents of the province and indeed of the city of Karachi felt that the merging of five districts into one, which was done under the government of General Pervez Musharraf, was a setback to ordinary people in that it would make it more difficult for them to get government-related work done.
