Gender discrimination

Letter September 25, 2019
Without women, men would never amount to much

TURBAT: Gender discrimination has snatched the rights of women. Our society is male dominated. Men think that women are slaves and are not capable of doing much. Disappointingly, this remains a major issue and stops women from advancing further in society. Most South Asian countries have this problem. Women have lost their freedom. In these societies, they have no right to participate in any decision-making. What is most shocking and irritating is that they are killed in the name of honour; which is rather paradoxically an act of dishonour. Even in the case of marriage they are either killed by the male members of the family or forcefully married to someone against her will. Qandeel Baloch is one of the most highlighted examples of a women’s liberators who became the victim of honour killing.

According to a national report, more than 20 million people commit suicide in a year.

Both genders have their own abilities according to their own skills. The time has come to realise our mistakes and understand the rights of women. Without women, men would never amount to much. They should be given their fundamental rights.
