Modern feminism

Feminism is about the advocacy of women’s rights to achieve equality and if equality is a far-fetched idea

KARACHI: Feminism is a movement dedicated to fighting gender inequality for the basic rights of women all around the world. It is an idea that comes off as something to look down upon for some and empowering for others. To me, feminism means working towards achieving global gender equity and is all about giving women a choice. In feminism, the same is applicable to men. It is about both genders. I acknowledge the fact that some aspects of our modern feminist society go against our culture but if we understand where we need to draw a line, it is empowering and uplifting in uncountable ways. It is the reason that education in rural areas is now prioritised more and child marriages have been reduced by a good percentage. Feminism is viewed in a dark light mostly because people have a lot of misconceptions about it. For example, feminists hate men and fail to understand their boundaries and responsibilities or that the only thing they stand for is their own voice. In our country, if parents give their daughters equal leverage as the sons, even something as little as that is feminism. Feminism is about the advocacy of women’s rights to achieve equality and if equality is a far-fetched idea, then one should move towards basic equity. This is why anyone can be a feminist.
