Intrepid reporting (II)

Letter July 09, 2011
I find reporters do not have any kind of protective gear and gunfire can be heard quite clearly in the background.

ISLAMABAD: I have to say, after watching several television channels, including the one run by your media organisation, that the journalists of Karachi, especially the reporters and camera persons covering the Karachi conflict over the past four or five days, deserve the appreciation of the public. They are playing with their lives to relay what is happening in their city to the rest of the world. In most case, I find that reporters do not have any kind of protective gear and gunfire can be heard quite clearly in the background. This is really no different than what one sees on CNN or BBC with their correspondents reporting from Gaza or Kandahar except that they wear protective gear. It’s about time that we started giving our journalists some respect for the courageous work that they do.
