The heavy rainfall has destroyed a lot of infrastructures and worsened the already dilapidated condition of the city
KARACHI: Rain again battered Karachi on August 28 and many of us were left exhilarated. What should have been a memorable moment, soon turned into despair following many deaths that occurred throughout Karachi. Rain is considered as a blessing and it brings relief in the hot climate of Karachi. It is God’s natural way of beautifying and providing nature with an adequate amount of water that is necessary for survival. Rainwater is stored in our dams and is eventually used either for irrigation purposes or for supplying drinking water.
The heavy rainfall, this time around, has destroyed a lot of infrastructures and worsened the already dilapidated condition of the city. Rainwater blocked roads gutter lines were chocked and overflowing. In some places, stagnant water is still standing. This is posing troubles to commuters and pedestrians. The accumulation of filth and garbage in the aftermath of rain has increased the swarms of flies and mosquitoes. This could lead to spreading of various diseases.
I urge the Mayor of Karachi, Waseem Akhtar, to act now. Residents of Karachi are exposed to multiple dangers.
