Most of the deaths reported during rains were due to electrocution
KARACHI: The recent rains in Karachi have left a question mark on the performance of our civic agencies as they have failed to cope with the disaster that resulted in the loss of precious lives. Most of the deaths reported during rains were due to electrocution because of the lack of safety measure Lack of resources and the incapability of the city government caused water drainage issues also making the power network vulnerable in many areas.
Electrocution of three young boys as seen in the heartbreaking video on social media in Defence was the result of bare electric wires submerged in water. We need to learn lessons from the recent rain-related incidents instead of blaming one another. Now it’s time to take serious and concrete measures and all relevant authorities should revisit their infrastructure to find out and fix the flaws. The officials concerned work jointly to tackle emergency situations like this.
