Pakistan to come out of its impasse it is important to make appointments strictly on merit, qualifications, competence
LAHORE: Our government has failed to launch a proactively a diplomatic offence to expose the Indian designs to annex occupied Kashmir. Diplomatic efforts with regard to the explosive situation in India-occupied Kashmir have not reached the desired level.
I have no hesitation in saying that foreign diplomatic assignments have become a tool for obliging political cronies and kith and kin of the influential. It is indeed a matter of grave concern that President Sirisena of Sri Lanka had to issue a clarification contradicting a press release regarding certain meetings that took place on the issue.
There is no doubt that Pakistan’s Armed Forces are among the best qualified and trained disciplined force with specialised skills in modern warfare. We live in a world where specialists alone can be given key assignments. For decades, this country’s economic policies, its academic institutions, sports bodies and technical organisations have been placed under bureaucrats who are trained for administrative assignments. In these times of specialisation such postings or lateral appointments are akin to a dentist serving as an oncologist or cardiologist. For Pakistan to come out of its impasse it is important to make appointments strictly on merit, qualifications and competence in the relevant field.
