Islamic scholars who do not gain a qualification in Dars-e-Nizami from madrassas are not accepted by the mullahs.
TORONTO: This is with reference to Amber Darr’s article of July 6 titled “The unsual journey of Muhammad Asad”. The sorry fact is that those Islamic scholars who do not gain a qualification in Dars-e-Nizami from madrassas are not accepted and revered by the mullahs. This problem was faced by other Islamic scholars as well, including Maulana Maudoodi and Dr Israr Ahmed. If the former had not founded a religious/political party, few people would know about him today. Dars-e-Nizami-qualified clerics control 90 per cent of mosques in Pakistan and in all these places the names of great scholars like Muhammad Asad are forbidden.
