We should try to keep our homes and our surroundings clean
KARACHI: During the three-day Eid holiday, Muslims who can afford to do offer sacrifice in line with Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) readiness to sacrifice his son. The meat, from this sacrifice, is divided into three portions, one of which is supposed to go to the poor and needy. Unfortunately, the holy occasion is gradually becoming commercialised.
Professional butchers ask for an unreasonable amount as their charge, so part-time butchers too make big money on the occasion. During Eid-ul-Azha many streets in Pakistan present the scene of a slaughterhouse. People do not care about disposing of offal and other animal residue properly. Because of slackness on the part of the municipal staff the offal are left at roadsides for several days. This shows lack of civic sense in our people. We should try to keep our homes and our surroundings clean. This is our social responsibility.
