The tax burden

Letter August 06, 2019
An underdeveloped nation such as Pakistan cannot afford such a burden

ISLAMABAD: There has been much talk on the inflation in recent days. Many surveys suggest that the rate of inflation has increased in Pakistan. The icing on the cake is that shopping stores and restaurants are taking full advantage of it. They keep selling items at rates which are far more than the prices fixed by the government. They are adding fuel to the fire.

The best example of this violation is of famous restaurants in Islamabad. They are openly selling beverages at high rates. As a matter of the fact, we now have to pay extra tax on the purchase of any item. This is a clear violation of the law.

Unfortunately, the price control committees can do nothing. I personally have lodged many complaints but to no avail.

My humble request to the Prime Minister is to rethink these impositions because they are adversely affecting the middle class. An underdeveloped nation such as Pakistan cannot afford such a burden.
