Public transport in Pakistan

Commuters are slowly running out of options for decent intra- and inter-city travel

RAWALPINDI: Commuters in Pakistan continue to suffer from the rundown state of transportation. There is no effective mass transit system to accommodate the continuously rising number of commuters. The majority of the existing transport infrastructure seems to be falling apart. Karachi, for instance, still runs buses that are decades old and in a wretched condition; other smaller buses are drastically reduced in numbers. Commuters are slowly running out of options for decent intra- and inter-city travel.

We hope that new policies such as a National Transport Policy, in addition to changing the face of transportation in Pakistan, will also constitute a legal regime that protects the interest of the existing transporters and other parties involved under the modern commercial environment.
