If a society is governed by corrupt politicians, the whole system is affected
MAKRAN: Corruption is a common trait of the present world. It is an incurable disease that has plagued society since decades.
Corruption is mostly prevalent in competitive countries, and is made use of for rapidly changing financial conditions for personal benefit. Contemporarily, this evil has seeped into almost all structures of society.
Even courts of justice and education are not safe from it. Corruption can be defined as the illegal abuse of entrusted power and authority that are not justified by law.
There are many reasons that lead to corruption. Nepotism is one of them. It involves favoritism where an individual is chosen for a certain job based on personal relations instead of ability or merit. Corruption has tarnished the respect that civilians have for the law and the government.
If a society is governed by corrupt politicians, the whole system is affected. The distinction between right and wrong disappears and forced takeovers become common.
History proves that the main cause of the downfall of any nation has been corruption. Moreover, lack of regulations, weak laws, greed of power and no accountability – all contribute to large-scale corruption.
Corruption increases poverty and polarizes society into different classes. To root out corruption, a complete change of the political, social and economic system is necessary. Corruption will continue unless its motive is removed.
For that, the minds of the people need to change. Destructive powers are to be taken out. There needs to be greater accountability. Anti-corruption departments should be made more effective. Punishment for those involved should be severe.
