Rising cost of education

Letter July 27, 2019
I find the current rise in tuition fees both cruel and ridiculous

KARACHI: Recently, college tuition fees have skyrocketed. Growing up, I was always told that education is the key to one’s future. Even though I believe this wholeheartedly, I am utterly disappointed with our national education system. Higher education is said to be a necessity for those with ability, but because of the cost it is deemed a luxury.

Education is important for multiple reasons. It allows you to learn things you may have never known. It opens you up to the world by exposing you to multiple facets of growth and learning. Furthermore, education allows you to better yourself so that you can become the person you have always wanted to be. For the poor, however, education is truly the key to their future. They can go on to do wonders, but all they need is a chance. For the majority of the population, receiving higher education is merely a dream. A dream that is impossible for them to translate into reality.

As a college student, I find the current rise in tuition fees both cruel and ridiculous. It is a hard pill to swallow. I appeal to the authorities concerned to look into the matter. Education is our first priority. The government needs to strengthen the national education system in such a way that it is affordable for all.
