The summit in Pakistan just brought together 100 or so people who like to talk to each other on Twitter
KARACHI: This is with reference to Ong Hock Chuan’s article of July 4 titled “Quick, which country am I talking about?” There is a key difference between the summit on social media in the writer’s native Indonesia and the one held in Karachi. The fact of the matter is that the summit in Pakistan did not bring the online community together — it brought together 100 or so people who like to talk to each other on Twitter, and many of whom are known to one another.
While the Indonesians might have done some projects on the ground, the vast majority of our online ‘revolutionaries’ are running websites in English in a country where more than half the people cannot even read or write their name in Urdu.
