Government should take steps to remove offal at the earliest
KARACHI: I’ve been living in Karachi since my birth. Every year, as Eidul Azha approaches there is an abundance of cattle that roam around the city. Karachi is suddenly transformed into a cattle farm with an unbearable odour.
The government should look into health risks tied to this. Around one million animals are slaughtered every year on Eidul Azha in Karachi. Still, no proper measures are taken to maintain cleanliness. The government is neglecting many duties, including this one. Offal are usually dumped into corners and empty spaces in populated areas. In such an atmosphere, it becomes difficult for people to even breathe.
The government should take steps to remove offal at the earliest. However, citizens should not rely on the government alone. They should also ensure a hygienic environment.
Resident unions can collect money from residents to hire people who can remove the waste every night. Places far away from residential areas should be used as dumping grounds. It is a useful and affordable way to get rid of garbage. The government should look into the matter and do the needful since Eidul Azha is around the corner.
