KALATUK, BALOCHISTAN: Nowadays numerous accidents occur due to the excessive use of mobile phones. This addiction has made us unsocial. Their presence has seeped into our most simplest and mundane tasks. We use our phones while walking talking, standing, sitting, eating, etc. It is like a new organ that needs our constant attention. We no longer live in the reality in our immediate vicinity. Our thoughts have been transcended into the virtual and our mind constantly revolves around online communities such as Facebook and Twitter. It has been inherently ingrained in our minds in such a way that we are constantly awaiting our next notification to pop up. This is the only thing that we look forward to. A simple act of crossing the road has become dangerous as we cannot take our eyes off of the screen.
The danger attached to this should be brought to light because major accidents occur due to our eyes being fixed on phones. Recently I witnessed an accident in which a man while using his phone instinctively opened the door of his car without looking outside. A fast paced motorcycle rammed into the open door causing him to fall off onto the street into a state of unconsciousness. People need to understand the dangers of this ill at least for the sake of others, if not for their own.
